embodied yoga principles - deepening the practice

Embodied Yoga Principles is a simple and innovative approach to postural Yoga drawing from many embodied/somatic practices to emphasise psychological self-awareness, deep personal insight and to develop skill transference off of the Yoga mat. The ultimate aim being a better awareness of how you ARE in relation to yourself, those around you and the world at large.

This session will incorporate a 45 minute slow, accessible vinyasa flow followed by time working with achetypal postures, discussion with partners & in small groups and space to explore how these principles could be taken away and worked with.

While the session will be completely accessible regardless of physical ability, it may be quite deep. So if you are going through any emotional or psychological it may not be for you right now.

Come open and prepared to laugh, cry and rage, to see and potentially change some long held patterns for the better.

Tom Holmes is a Yoga & Qigong teacher based in South London drawing on a wealth of knowledge and experience within many embodied and spiritual practices to provide people with tools to live a more vibrant life.

Tom is currently training in the EYP methodology so this session will be offered on a donation basis, with all proceeds going to Thrive. Thrive uses gardening to bring about positive changes in the lives of people living with disabilities or ill health, or who are isolated, disadvantaged or vulnerable.

If you like your physical exercise to come with a side of spiritual enlightenment, kundalini yoga might be for you.

Going to a class today feels so fresh, relevant and forward thinking, you would think it was a hybrid Eastern-Western concept developed specifically for the 21st Century.

‘Kundalini’ is an ancient Sanskrit word that literally means ‘coiled snake’. In early Eastern religion (long before Buddhism and Hinduism) it was believed that each individual possessed a divine energy at the base of the spine. This energy was thought to be the sacred energy of creation. This energy is something we are born with, but we must make an effort to ‘uncoil the snake’ thereby putting us in direct contact with the divine. Kundalini Yoga is the practice of awakening our Higher Self and turning potential energy into kinetic energy.

This form of yoga is a dynamic, powerful practice to establish and maintain an aligned relationship between the mind, body and spirit. Kundalini Yoga gives people the tools to optimise energy levels, restore vitality, strengthen the nervous system, balance the glandular system and (re)connect to our essential self. Classes include sequences of postures (kriyas), breath work, meditation, mudra hand positions and mantra.

This beginners workshop will give you the confidence to attend kundalini yoga classes and workshops. You can talk to Emma about starting your own daily practice and learn about simple techniques to enhance your everyday experience.

Yin reminds us that it is the path that matters and not the destination. It is a mindful and passive practice, that allows the muscles of the body and mind to deeply relax. Yin Yoga creates space in the joints and connective tissue, allowing you to release tension physically, mentally and emotionally as you nurture yourself with an open-minded attitude of acceptance and love.

an inversion workshop for beginners w/ Lita Sattva

The aim of this workshop is to provide a good foundation for your inversion practice.

Inversions and arm balances, are sometimes considered by students to be intimidating and out of reach.

We will learn to embrace the thought of being upside down and balancing on the top of our head in headstands and tripods and also find balance in our forearms through foundation exercises.

We will progressively build the poses to gain strength, stability and balance. Let’s put our hearts above our heads!

Hamstrings can be a common source of frustration for many yoga practitioners. In this workshop we will look at why the hamstrings are so important to a fulfilling yoga practice and explore tips and tricks for healthy hamstring stretches.
The hamstrings are intimately connected to the health of the lower back and pelvis. Many back injuries and lower back pain issues are directly related to the hamstrings. 

We will explore specific actions in yoga postures using drills and props to lengthen the hamstrings and open the back of the knees without overworking the ligaments and joints and then how to apply these actions in both Standing Poses and Forward Folds

Open to all levels of practitioners, this workshop will particularly benefit those who feel tight hamstrings hamper their practice and those who are hyper-extended in the knees.

Take your yoga practice from earth to air with this AcroVinyasa workshop!

No previous acro experience necessary (though welcome). 

No yoga expertise required (though useful).

No partner needed (though you should bring them too!).

Just you and a your playfulness!!

AcroVinyasa is a beautiful marriage of the tradition of yoga with the play of togetherness. It is inspired by the combination of well known yoga asanas with L-based acrobatic flying, to build strength and find balance through both the solo and partner practices in a fun and playful environment.

The workshop will comprise of a solo Vinyasa practice, inversions training, and partnered acro yoga, and will be focused more towards a beginner/intermediate level. 

David has completed over 700 hours of training, including Ashtanga, Rocket, Yin, and Mandala with The Yoga People; advanced Rocket with David Kyle; and Anatomy with Dylan Werner. He qualified as an AcroVinyasa teacher having trained 100 hours with the creators of AcroVinyasa, Claudine and Honza LaFond, aka YogaBeyond.

Your Teacher, Lolo Lam...

In a previous life, Lolo worked as a nurse, specializing in the areas of neurosurgery and intensive care. After many years of observing the pitfalls of inactivity and poor lifestyle, she started studying the holistic system of Ayurveda and yoga. Having studied with some incredible teachers, Lolo was amazed at how yoga and Ayurveda helped her deal with her own physical and mental demons and hopes that she can facilitate an empowered and embodied practice that will do that for others.

Lolos’ classes combine a powerful yet nurturing energy with a mischievous sparkle. Students are encouraged to explore the practice, learning about their individual anatomy, the power of their breath and the nature of their mind. Lolo enjoys teaching a diverse range of students from complete beginners to more seasoned practitioners.

Lolo currently teaches Rocket yoga, yin/yang, vinyasa, beginners and yoga nidra in studios across London. Lolo is also a guest teacher on a number of teacher trainings.
